Staff workshop vol.1 WABARA

KINTO recently had the pleasure of welcoming Kenichi Kunieda from Rose Universe Co., Ltd. for a staff workshop on their WABARA roses. WABARA roses are organic roses grown in conditions as close to the wild as possible in Moriyama, Shiga Prefecture. In this session, he taught us about Rose Universe’s philosophy, their farming methods and various WABARA products, before letting us try our hand at arranging WABARA roses in KINTO’s LUNA vase.

Kenichi’s top tip is to hold back from “designing” the arrangement. “I always tell my team to stop thinking about how to make them look beautiful, but to imagine how they were growing in the soil, to listen to the roses. When in doubt, the answers are always on the farm.” At our workshop he offered us the same advice. “Today, I want you to forget about trying to create a beautiful arrangement, and imagine what sort of arrangement would make you, or the roses, happy.” It was a message that could only come from a person who had nurtured these roses, and his passion was keenly felt by all present. We will never look at a flower in quite the same way again.
